What do you do if you want to enter a dog show?
I am curious as to what you should do if you want to learn to show your dog and enter in a show. I think my dog is pretty nice. What should I do?

CONGRATS!!!
Congratulations on your well deserved Group 2 placement this last weekend! Noah looked absolutely fabulous! Again you were robbed on Sunday; it really was between Noah and Macho! But it was good to see Noah in the ring and enjoying himself. Daniel

Respect -- Doing the right thing
Respect is more than a word; it is a way of life, and takes self-awareness and discipline to practice.

Respect isn't something you can demand.

Respect is something you earn when you stand up for yourself and respect others.

It is right to challenge disrespectful behaviors from others when you do it in a respectful way.

Are you willing to do the right thing, make hard choices, walk away from people who treat you with disrespect, exhibit behaviors and treat you with little regard?

Do the right thing.

Wave goodbye respectfully as you walk away.

Dog Show Sites, Events, and Surveys
We just spent two days in very hot and dusty Arizona at the shows in Casa Grande, AZ.  The show is one of the few indoor shows I've been to in AZ which is nice but the wind was just terrible.  Due to the remoteness and the many fields of sand, the dust storms were terrible.

The Lost Dutchman KC made a valliant effort to keep the dogs and exhibitors as cool and comfortable as possible.  It's staggering how much it is costing clubs to host shows and how few truly wonderful venues there are for shows.  Lost Dutchman was taking a very proactive approach to gathering exhibitor and spectator preferences for future shows and asked that those interested in providing input take their online survey.

You can view more about their kennel club on their web site at:  http://www.ldkc.org/

I'd be curious to know if anyone reading the blog was there and what their observations for the show were and if you provided input to the club.  Do share!

Just Hello
Congratulations on a wonderful site. It's always great to see anything that promotes the Silky Breed. There are a few other sites on line who profess to be about Silkys, but email traffic just doesn't ever touch on the subject. Other good ones like our own  http://SilkyRescue.tripod.com and silkydog-L@APPLE.EASE.LSOFT.COM are the mainstream. Hope yours takes off in the same direction.

Enchanted Southwest Silky Terriers
Wow, it's been such a busy few months for the NM based Silky Terrier fanciers!  We've been getting together regularly to train our puppies and reacquaint our Veteran Silkys with the ring too.  We had the chance toall get together in Tucson, AZ on March 22 & 23, 2008.

Congratulations to Linda Hurt and her handler, Daniel Goebel on the nice Breed wins with Ch Jenstar Pretty in Pink.

Our congratulationsand best wishes  to Joanna Seleme and her lovely Silky Terrier Bearli, CH. Amron Frason Bearanda, RN, CGC -- on obtaining her conformation championship under Mrs. Charlotte McGowan.  Bearli also took Best of Breed both days in Midland, TX on April 12 & 13, 2008.  Way to go Joanna and Beali.

Next meeting of the Enchanted Silky Terrier Fanciers of the Great Southwest will be April 19 & 20, 2008.

Counting our blessings
One of the best things about being in dogs is the amazing number of people that you meet.

I've recently had the opportunity to correspond with and talk on the phone with some wonderful people who have a genuine interest in the well being of the breed and it's been terrific.

On the whole, I find people just love sharing the stories about their lives and their Silky furbabies both current and past.

I'm always so delighted when I have the opportunity to place a Silky in a home where they profoundly impact the lives of their owners for the better.  It's extremely satisfying.

Wishing you all the best.

Happy New Year.

Westminster 2008
It's been quite a year out there specialing our boy Noah as an owner handler.  We fought long and hard for enough wins to earn the invitation to Westminster but the invitation remained ellusive.

We did try to get in on the lottery and both Noah and Pink were fortunate to get confirmed entries.  So it's off to the Big Apple for our Wind Dancer and Jenstar Silkys!

You have to wonder why we work so hard for this every year.  Unless you 'get' the whole dog show thing you must think we are insane.  There's such pride in walking out on the green carpet at Madison Square Garden and having the opportunity to show the attendees and your peers your beautiful dog.  It's just hard to explain.

So when we can and when we are fortunate enough to get it, it's so much fun to set up in the benching area and share our love, our knowledge and our beautiful Silky exhibits with the attendees of the greatest dog show in the United States, Westminster.

If you are reading this blog and want to come by and meet us and our Silkys, we'll see you there!

Madison Square Garden
Check out this recent article on new development on MSG:  New Madison Square Garden?

Recently on the Showdogs-L there has been some discussion on how hard it is on dogs to attend the Westminster Kennel Club in the present venue Madison Square Garden.

Seems as though the site is planned for redevelopment.  Let's hope that the 'new' MSG will bring better conditions for the dogs, exhibitors and attendees.
